STATEMENT OF FAITH

We endeavor to share the Truth of the Bible with love and compassion. The Bible is the basis for the truths we believe and teach. The Bible is also the basis for our conduct. The relationship we have with God, founded on the principles in the Scripture, govern our lifestyles that reflect the attributes of our Holy God. We have the utmost regard for the Bible as being the “inspired Word of God.” (See II Timothy 3:15-17) Therefore, the truths that are shared with love and compassion are interpreted by the same Spirit that authored the Bible. In other words, The House of Refuge Church believes that the only way to understand and teach the truths in the Bible is to have the Spirit that inspired holy men long ago to write the Bible guide us and live within our hearts. (See II Peter 1:20-21) The Spirit of God that is larger than the universe is alone in His greatness. There is nothing that can compare to His power and character. Therefore, He defines what is good and what is sin or what is contrary to His holy nature. Those definitions are found in the Word of God and are revealed to us by His Spirit, by reading, praying, and preaching His Word.

We at The House of Refuge Church believe that the full standard of Bible salvation is repentance, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins (See Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38, 8:16, 10:48, 19:5, 22:16), and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the evidence (See Mark 16:17, Acts 2:4, 10:46, 19:6).  We believe there is one God who has revealed Himself as our Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and as the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God manifested in flesh. He is both God and man. (See Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16.) Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (See Romans 3:23-25; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9.) The saving gospel as defined by the apostle Paul in I Corinthians 15, is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. We obey the gospel (II Thessalonians 1:8; I Peter 4:17) by repentance (death to sin), water baptism (burial), and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection). (See I Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:4, 37-39; Romans 6:3) As Christians, we are to love God and others. We should live a holy life inwardly and outwardly and worship God joyfully. The supernatural gifts of the Spirit, including healing, are for the church today. (See Mark 12:28-31; II Corinthians 7:1; Hebrews 12:14; I Corinthians 12:8-10.) Jesus Christ is coming again to take His church home. This is called the rapture of the church. In the end will be the final resurrection and the final judgment. The righteous will inherit eternal life and the unrighteous eternal death. (See I Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15.)

We at The House of Refuge Church believe that worship to God is acknowledging who He is: that God is holy, sovereign, and worthy. We demonstrate that acknowledgement by the examples of worship found in the handbook of worship in the Bible – Psalms – which was written by the King David the man after God’s own heart. We believe worship is heartfelt and the honest expression of our adoration to Jesus Christ. That expression is often demonstrated in

• Singing because the Bible says in Psalms 33:3 Sing unto him a new song, play skillfully with a loud noise.

• By playing various instruments. See Psalm 150

• By raising our hands because the Bible says in Psalms 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.

• By clapping our hands and even shouting at times because the Bible says in Psalms 47:1 O clap your hands, all ye people – shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

• And by dancing because the Bible says in Psalms 149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. We believe that no one is exempt from worship. See Psalm 150:6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalms 91:2 (KJV)
